Fishlastic
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
You find yourself in the middle of an empty ocean in a boat full of trash. Look around the boat. Pick up, drop and throw trash around and see if any fish appears in the ocean and explore a scene deprived of any living fish.
Fishlastic is a game made over the course of 4 weeks as part of my Uni work. In the assignment, I was tasked with finding an artwork at the Victoria Art museum and adapting the artwork into a video game. While viewing the exhibits, I was inspired by Porky Hefer's Plastocene. In the artwork, he explores the possible impact plastic can have on life in the ocean, because of its unique characteristic of never decomposing. Eventually, making plastic part of the DNA of living organisms and making them living plastic creatures.
I wanted to explore this concept of living plastic organisms by lifting Porky Hefer’s idea of living plastic and how, in one moment, the plastic your holding is a normal everyday item, while in the next, it’s a living thing swimming around in the ocean.
